Service bulletin BMWNOV0213

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

NHTSA's summary

"Technical Service will need to collect 20 oil filter housings and gasket sets that are found leaking engine oil or coolant for a special parts analysis. It is very important that the gaskets not be removed from the engine oil filter housing. The engine oil filter housing should be drained, wiped dry, bagged and shipped to the address specified below with a copy of the RO, describing the complaint. Important: Do not spray the unit with any solvents, because the analysis will include chemical testing. A cleaning solvent may cause incorrect results. Place ""Technical Service Request"" in the Warranty Claim comments of each claim description, indicating that parts were collected for a special investigation. When we have collected enough samples, a follow-up DCS message will be distributed."
