Service bulletin M120612
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

NHTSA's summary
Change in Thermostat Electrical Connector on Replacement Engine Harness. Vehicles produced from 3/2013 are no longer equipped with an engine coolant thermostat that incorporates the engine coolant temperature sensor (thermostat P/N 11 53 7 647 751). The engine coolant temperature sensor is now an individual component. To accommodate this component change, there was also a production change to the engine wiring harness; this also includes the replacement engine harnesses for earlier produced vehicles. The replacement harness is no longer equipped with the four pin connector for the thermostat / engine coolant temperature sensor, but two separate twopin connectors, one for the coolant thermostat and one for the engine coolant temperature sensor. *The N16 engine switched production to the 11 53 7 534 521 thermostat in 3/2012. This thermostat, like the new 751, incorporates a separate engine coolant temperature sensor. The connectors on the 521 thermostat will not match up to the connectors on a new, replacement engine harness. The 521 thermostat will need to be replaced with the 751 thermostat during this repair.

| M610607 | 2023-11-01. Service bulletin. MINI electrical systems have continued to develop over the past few years. As a result, the demand on the batteries has increased. Breakdowns due to an empty battery or problems in the vehicles electrical system can have various causes, most of which are not due to the battery itself. For this reason, a battery replacement will permanently eliminate the problem only in the rarest of cases. The energy diagnosis test module helps to localize these causes. This document covers important information for the dealer on how to handle “discharged battery” complaints. Without performing the energy diagnosis test plan, the root cause of a discharged battery cannot be identified. In order to properly repair the vehicle the first time, it is very important that the diagnostic test plan is performed to completion; with all results taken into consideration. |
