Service bulletin 130414

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

NHTSA's summary

M57Y Diesel Fuel Injector: Zero Mass Adaption Faults. The Service Engine Soon light is on. Possible Fault Codes stored: 4AD5 - Zero-mass adaption injector Cylinder 1 4AD6 - Zero-mass adaption injector Cylinder 1 4AE5 - Zero-mass adaption injector Cylinder 2 4AE6 - Zero-mass adaption injector Cylinder 2 4AF5 - Zero-mass adaption injector Cylinder 3 4AF6 - Zero-mass adaption injector Cylinder 3 4B05 - Zero-mass adaption injector Cylinder 4 4B06 - Zero-mass adaption injector Cylinder 4 4B15 - Zero-mass adaption injector Cylinder 5 4B16 - Zero-mass adaption injector Cylinder 5 4B25 - Zero-mass adaption injector Cylinder 6 4B26 - Zero-mass adaption injector Cylinder 6 These faults are stored after an intake carbon cleaning (B11 03 14) or an extensive engine repair. When following the recommended test plan, ISTA incorrectly instructs the technician to replace all six fuel injectors. However, the same fuel injector zero-mass faults can return shortly after replacing the fuel injectors. CAUSE The DDE fuel injector zero-mass adaption is not being calibrated correctly.

B1221102018-12-10. Service bulletin. N51 Engine: Service Engine Soon Lamp Illuminated - Loss of Power and Various Faults Stored in the DME. The customer complains that the Service Engine Soon lamp is illuminated. The vehicle has lost power; the engine cranks but will not start; and various faults are stored in the DME for engine misfire and/or mixture adaptations. CAUSE The vehicle has lost fuel system delivery pressure due to a loose or split fuel line inside the fuel tank. The failure is related to an unfavorable stacking of tolerances between the rubber fuel hose and the plastic regulator nipple or deterioration of the rubber hose construction material.
B1303152018-12-10. Service bulletin. SI B13 03 15 February 2016 Fuel Systems Technical Service This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI B13 03 15 dated March 2015 and replaces SI B13 04 13 dated March 2014. SUBJECT N20, N26, N55, N63TU, S63TU and S55 Engines: Bosch Injector ETK Part Number Error. The current version of the ETK incorporates multiple part number errors for the Bosch type injectors. Ordering the injectors by VIN number or manual identification in ETK may result in an incorrect part number.
1805122018-12-03. Service bulletin. "Voluntary Emissions Recall Campaign 11E-A03: Check and/or Replace Emissions Monitoring Components. 1. Under certain driving conditions, the High-pressure (HP) EGR valve may become restricted with excessive soot. This restriction impedes the emissions performance of the HP EGR valve. This situation may lead to a Service Engine Soon lamp. An optimized EGR valve has been developed to limit this soot buildup. 2. The Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) mixer has also been improved to optimize the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) mixture when introduced into the exhaust system. Note: These Improved parts may have already been replaced during a previous service visit. It will be necessary to inspect these components first before replacement. 3. Reprogramming of the DDE is required to optimize these improved emissions monitoring components. AFFECTED VEHICLES This Emissions Recall Campaign involves X5d (E70) and 335d (E90) models that were produced from April 2009 to March 2011. In order to determine whether a specific vehicle has had this Emissions Recall Campaign completed or is affected by this Emissions Recall Campaign, first check if the ""Emissions Recall Campaign Completed"" label SD 92-435. This label is attached to the right (passenger) rear side of the hood in the engine compartment, close to the windshield. If the label is found, the campaign has already been performed. If the ""Emissions Recall Campaign Completed"" label is not present, it will be necessary to utilize the ""Service Menu"" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action."

1304092018-11-26. Service bulletin. "N54 Engine: Diagnosis of Cold Start Rough Running with Misfire Faults. The customer may complain that during the cold start in the morning, the engine runs very roughly and the Service Engine Soon lamp is illuminated. Various misfire fault codes (e.g., 29CC, 29D2, 29D1, 29D0, 29C0, 29CF) may be stored in the DME control module. The engine rough running complaint can be reproduced on a cold start in the workshop. During the course of diagnosis, the spark plugs, removed from the misfiring cylinders after the problem was reproduced, are found to be soaked (""wet"") with fuel, while the injector tips are covered with a layer of carbon deposit. Possible cause: high-pressure injector failure (leakage or incorrect spraying pattern) due to internal wear or unfavorable stock of tolerances IMPORTANT: For comprehensive N54 drivability diagnostics, always refer to the ""N54 Engine Diagnostic Fault Tree"" file (the current version ""02_14_13"" is found as a PDF attachment to SI B12 55 06)."

1601142018-11-13. Service bulletin. PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THIS SERVICE INFORMATION ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES BEFORE CUSTOMER DELIVERY OR THE NEXT TIME THEY ARE IN THE SHOP FOR MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS. SUBJECT Service Action: Replace the SCR Tank. The Service Engine Soon lamp is illuminated. The fault codes stored are related to the SCR active tank temperature sensor. The temperature sensor inside the active tank degrades over time. The sensor is integrated into the SCR (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) tank assembly and is not replaceable separately. AFFECTED VEHICLES This Service Action involves certain E90 vehicles produced from March 2008 to August 2009. First check if a Service Action label with a code number 669 is already attached to the B-pillar. If a code number 669 has been punched out, the Campaign has already been performed and no further action is necessary. Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as "Open" when checked either in the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader.
