Service bulletin MC6100113

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

NHTSA's summary

Within the framework of quality monitoring, BMW Motorrad has ascertained that repair is considerably more efficient than full replacement as a means of dealing with defective wiring harnesses. Professional repair can ensure that the cause of damage is remedied, and not merely the perceived symptoms. If a wiring harness is replaced because of chafing, wire breaks, etc., the problems can return in the course of time. Information relating to the cause of the fault is a great help to our efforts to further improve the quality of the vehicles over time. In this way design features can be implemented to eliminate faults and production can be optimized.
