Service bulletin MC6100415

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

NHTSA's summary

BMW Motorrad has ascertained that the ignition switch of the R nineT (K21) may exhibit a malfunction. When the ignition key has been turned to the off position, the ignition and engine remain on. Each time the ignition key is switched on, current flows through the microswitch contacts. This microswitch supplies electric current to the entire flow vehicle electrical system (KL15). When in ABS regulation the ABS control unit requires a relatively high current. This can cause spikes in amp flow to occur and the contacts to become welded together. If this happens the contacts no longer separate when the ignition key is turned to the off position.
