Service bulletin MC1300216

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

NHTSA's summary

During the course of the quality analysis, BMW Motorrad, has determined that the software of the DME control unit for the exhaust flap controller installed in series production as of October 7, 2016, is faulty. In certain cases, the faulty data can lead to an erroneous fault after the ignition is switched on. An engine fault is displayed and the engine can only be driven with reduced power up to a speed of 4,000 rpm.
