Service bulletin 2018030013

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

NHTSA's summary

Daimler AG (?DAG?), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vehicles, has determined that on certain SPRINTER vehicles equipped with diesel engine OM642, the pressure regulating valve on the rail (fuel distributor rail of common rail system) may be slightly leaky, as two seals may not have been fitted with the required degree of precision. Consequently, very small quantities of diesel fuel could leak out along the engine wiring harness and, in the most unfavorable case, enter the engine control unit which could lead to malfunctions and possible failure of the exhaust gas cleaning system. In such an instance, the driver would be notified of the situation through activation of the engine indicator lamp in the instrument cluster. A fire hazard or a fuel leak onto the roadway can however be ruled out.
