# Service bulletin SSM 47125

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

- Type: Service bulletin
- NHTSA id: 10137081
- Published by NHTSA: 2018\-05\-21
- Manufacturer's number: SSM 47125
- Manufacturer's date: 2018\-03\-05
- NHTSA component: FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL

## NHTSA's summary

Some 2018 Transit vehicles equipped with a 3.2L diesel built on or after 01\-Nov\-2017 may indicate a blank PCM when connected to the Ford Integrated Diagnostic System \(IDS\) or Ford J2534 Diagnostic Software \(FJDS\). Follow the IDS prompts to recover the PCM. This may take several attempts. Do not replace the PCM. Engineering is investigating the issue. Please monitor OASIS for updates.

Some 2011\-2020 F\-Super Duty, 2015\-2019 Transit, 2016\-2021 F\-650/F\-750 and 2018\-2020 F\-150 vehicles equipped with a 6.7L, 3.2L or 3.0L engine may exhibit an illuminated MIL with diagnostic trouble codes \(DTCs\) P207F, P20EE, P229F, P2201 and/or P24AE. This may be a result of using aftermarket cleaning liquids or tools for the exhaust gas recirculation \(EGR\) cooler or intake. Ford does not recommend the cleaning of diesel intakes or EGR coolers using any aftermarket tool that injects a cleaning foam or liquid substance into the EGR cooler or intake. Using these types of fluids can result in sodium poisoning of the NOx and particulate matter \(PM\) sensors resulting in degraded operation and permanent damage to the after treatment system. Use of these cleaning tools may void the emissions warranty of the hot end after treatment exhaust system and the attached emissions sensors.
- [SSM 48601](/bulletins/10172948.md), 2020-04-02, Service bulletin: FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL. SSM 48601 \- 2015\-2019 Transit \- 3.2L Diesel \- Loss Of Power During Driving Under Extreme Cold Weather Conditions Some 2015\-2019 Transit vehicles equipped with a 3.2L diesel engine may exhibit a concern about loss of power during driving under very cold weather conditions. This may be due to fuel waxing/gelling in the filter. Market fuel properties or improperly adjusted seasonal fuel may lead to early fuel filter waxing and restricting fuel flow to the engine. In order to rectify this extreme cold concern, a fuel filter thermal valve kit CK4Z\-9B337\-B can be installed. The kit improves the recirculation of warm engine return fuel inside the fuel filter to reduce waxing. Instructions on how to install this fuel filter thermal valve are contained within the kit. This is a customer pay upgrade only and not covered under warranty.

SSM 47926 \- 2018\-2019 F\-150/Expedition/Navigator/Transit/Explorer \- Illuminated MalfunctionIndicator Lamp \(MIL\) With Diagnostic Trouble Code \(DTC\) P025A Some 2018\-2019 F\-150, Expedition, Navigator, Transit and Explorer vehicles may exhibit an illuminated MIL with DTC P025A stored in the powertrain control module \(PCM\). This may be due to an intermittent or partial disconnect of the harnessto the fuel pump driver module \(FPDM\) connector. Confirm FPDM connector \(F\-150 C4336, Expedition/Navigator C433, Transit C433, Explorer C3239\) is fully seated prior to performing PC/ED diagnostics or replacing any components. APPLICABLE VEHICLES

Some 2016\-2019 Transit vehicles equipped with a 3.2L diesel engine built on or before 7\-Feb\-2019 may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp \(MIL\) with only diagnostic trouble code \(DTC\) P054E stored in the powertrain control module \(PCM\). This may be due to the PCM software. Update the PCM software to resolve the condition.
- [TSB 19\-2016](/bulletins/10156859.md), 2019-04-08, Service bulletin: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE; ENGINE. Some 2016\-2018 Transit vehicles equipped with a 3.2L Duratorq diesel engine and built on or before 13\-Feb\-2018 may exhibit an illuminated MIL with diagnostic trouble codes \(DTCs\) P24A0 and/or P26A0 in the powertrain control module \(PCM\). Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
- [TSB 19\-2016](/bulletins/10155447.md), 2019-04-01, Service bulletin: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE; FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.
- [SSM 47712](/bulletins/10153949.md), 2019-03-04, Service bulletin: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:DIESEL; FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL. Some 2017\-2019 F\-Super Duty and 2016\-2019 F650\-750 with 6.7L diesel engines, 2015\-2019 Transit with 3.2L diesel engines and 2018\-2019 F\-150 with 3.0L diesel engines may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp \(MIL\) with diagnostic trouble code \(DTC\) P206C in the powertrain control module \(PCM\). Review of repair data supports that P206C is often the result of incorrect diesel exhaust fluid \(DEF\) concentration. Per Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis \(PC/ED\) Pinpoint Test \(PPT\) RJ, a DEF concentration reading below 28% will set P206C and cause vehicle derate. If low concentration is suspected, drain fluid and replace with known good DEF before replacing any parts. Low concentration of DEF is not a warrantable condition.
- [SSM 47469](/bulletins/10144941.md), 2018-09-24, Service bulletin: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE. 2018 Transit vehicles equipped with 3.7L engine and built on or after 10\-Aug\-2018 will no longer have foam NVH covers on the fuel rails. This was a running production change, do not submit as mis\-build or warranty to change back to the previous model design.
