# Service bulletin T\-SB\-0001\-18\_Rev

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

- Published by NHTSA: 2018\-03\-12
- Manufacturer's number: T\-SB\-0001\-18\_Rev

## NHTSA's summary

TSB: REVISION NOTICE February 02, 2018 Rev1: ? Applicability has been updated to include 2018 model year Sienna vehicles. ? The entire bulletin has been updated. Any previous printed versions of this bulletin should be discarded. When completing a transaxle assembly replacement, Engine Control Module \(ECM\) \(SAE term: Powertrain Control Module \[PCM\]\) replacement, or ECM \(PCM\) reprogram, ensure the correct ECM \(PCM\) software is matched with the transaxle assembly hardware. Some 2017 ? 2018 model year Highlander and Sienna vehicles require different ECM \(PCM\) software based on the transaxle assembly hardware installed in the vehicle. NOTICE Mismatched transaxle assembly hardware and ECM \(PCM\) software combinations may result in a harsh shift or shift flare. If this occurs after the original repair, additional ECM \(PCM\) replacement and reprogramming will be required. This additional ECM \(PCM\) replacement and/or reprogramming is NOT covered under warranty. Use the information in this Service Bulletin to confirm that the correct ECM \(PCM\) hardware and software are used based on the transaxle assembly part number and serial number.

TSB: Some 2017 ? 2018 model year Highlander and Sienna vehicles may exhibit a whine noise while driving, a harsh shift, MIL ON, or reduced power. The following Diagnostic Trouble Codes \(DTCs\) may be present: P07457F, P07757F, P07957F, P28077F, P28167F, P08BA7F, P27137F, P07407E, P27567F, P211904, or P071531. For transaxles within the specified dates that meet the required symptoms, a remanufactured transaxle is available. Follow the Repair Procedure in this bulletin to address this condition.

- [T\-TT\-0600\-20 Rev](/bulletins/10184555.md), 2020-12-21, Service bulletin: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE; EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:INFOTAINMENT:BLUETOOTH/WIFI. TT: Some customers may experience echoing on the line calling the vehicle when using Bluetooth Hands Free. This is caused by the phone Hands Free volume being too low. These settings may need to be reapplied any time the phone is paired to a new head unit, a phone update is applied, or the phone is un\-paired and re\-paired.
- [T\-TT\-0566\-19 Rev](/bulletins/10179772.md), 2020-09-14, Service bulletin: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE; EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL. TT: Some vehicles may display an error message that displays ?New software is not compatible with the system. Contact your dealer.? after the Display Control Unit \(DCU\) or navigation Multimedia Extension Unit \(MEU\) is replaced if the Phase 3 \(CarPlay\) retrofit is not applied prior to replacement. Panasonic exchange MEU and DCU parts are now being shipped with Phase 3 software installed.
- [T\-SB\-0047\-19 Rev](/bulletins/10179765.md), 2020-09-14, Service bulletin: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE; EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:NAVIGATIONAL SYSTEM\(GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM\). TSB: Some 2018 ? 2020 model year Toyota vehicles equipped with a Premium Audio with Dynamic Navigation System require a Special Service Tool \(SST\) USB flash drive to update the map, points of interest, and system software. The SST is used with applicable vehicles to deliver the update; however, the process for generating license keys differs from previous generations. Before attempting to perform a map update, the head unit?s expiration date must be checked. If the expiration date is still valid, a license key may be generated without the use of an activation card number. Updating the maps without the use of an activation card number is considered an Embedded Navigation Update \(refer to pg. 10\) and performing this process does not extend the duration of telematic map services. If the head unit?s expiration date is expired, or is expiring within the next 90 days, it should be recommended to the customer to purchase an activation number. Utilizing an activation number will initiate a Dynamic Navigation Update \(refer to pg. 4\). This Dynamic Navigation Update will perform the Embedded Navigation Update and provide telematic map services for a period of two years from the day that the Dynamic Navigation Update is performed. Activation card numbers are provided in an activation card number pamphlet available through the normal parts ordering system.
