# Service bulletin A011336 2035235\-

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

- Type: Service bulletin
- NHTSA id: 10121296
- Published by NHTSA: 2017\-10\-31
- Manufacturer's number: A011336 2035235\-
- Manufacturer's date: 2013\-10\-09
- NHTSA component: FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP; ENGINE

## NHTSA's summary

The customer reports that the engine warning light illuminates sporadically. The engine may have reduced performance without significant loss of power or stalling. Noise is heard coming from the engine compartment, specifically from the High Pressure Fuel Pumps 2. DTCs are stored in the engine control module \(ECM\). The fuel metering valve of the high\-pressure fuel pump is controlled by a specific on/off ratio. If there is a low system voltage, the on/off ratio may not be enough to keep the fuel metering valve constant in all areas. In such a situation, the fuel metering valve is deactivated and the high\-pressure fuel pump switches to full supply mode. Because the increased rail pressure does not match the respective driving situation, the DTC appears.

Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 01 number 14\-69 dated March 6, 2014. The MIL is on. No start or rough running. DTCs are stored in the ECM. When diagnosing a MIL on, no\-start, or rough running concern on a common rail diesel vehicle, and no root cause is found after checking all other components and following all GFF diagnostic procedures, it may be necessary to check for metallic particles in the High Pressure Fuel Pump.
- [A011469 2036668\-](/bulletins/10122277.md), 2017-11-08, Service bulletin: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP. The MIL is on. No start or rough running. DTCs are stored in the ECM. When diagnosing the condition listed above on a common rail diesel vehicle, if no root cause is found after all GFF diagnostic procedures have been performed, it may be necessary to check for metallic particles in the high pressure fuel pump using the procedure in the Service section of this bulletin.
- [A011455 2036169\-](/bulletins/10122176.md), 2017-11-08, Service bulletin: ENGINE; FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP. The MIL is on. DTC P0087 may be stored in the ECM. Drivability concerns such as hard starting/no starting are present. Outside temperature is sub\-freezing. In tank, fuel pump may be making a straining noise. Diesel fuel requires additive blending or ?winterization? to be useable at low temperatures. At temperatures below 20° F \(\-7° C\), No. 2 Diesel with insufficient winterization blending may lose its fluidity due to wax separation. This may clog the fuel filter or in\-tank filter, preventing the engine from operating properly. No. 2 Diesel is blended by refineries to various levels of winterization \(minimum useable temperature\) based on month, geographical location, and the 10th percentile minimum ambient air temperature for the given region. Although rare, during sudden periods of extreme low temperatures \(record lows\), fuel stations may not be adequately prepared with No. 2 Diesel fuel with sufficient winterization to resist wax formation or ?gelling?.
- [A011505 2036169\-](/bulletins/10119854.md), 2017-10-21, Service bulletin: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:STARTER ASSEMBLY. The MIL is on due to a Fuel Rail/System Pressure Too Low DTC stored in the ECM. Drivability concerns such as hard starting/no starting are present. Fuel pump may be making a straining noise. Outside temperature is sub\-freezing. This issue is related to the diesel fuel and not a technical problem with the vehicle.
