# Service bulletin P4213

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

## NHTSA's summary

Juke Timing Chain Voluntary Service Campaign \- Expiration Notice Reminder \*\*\*\*\* Campaign Status Update \*\*\*\*\* Nissan launched this Voluntary Service Campaign on April 25, 2014 on certain 2011\-2013 Nissan Juke vehicles to offer customers the opportunity to replace the timing chain, chain guides, and crank sprocket at no charge to the customer for parts and labor. Nissan has made multiple attempts to notify customers concerning this service campaign and provided notification to customers that the campaign will end on September 28, 2017. Nissan wants to remind dealers that vehicles must have repair orders opened on or before September 28, 2017 in order to have timing chain replacement covered by this campaign. Vehicles presented for repair after this date will not be covered by this service campaign and any repair will be performed at customer expense if the vehicle's warranty has expired. \*\*\*\*\* What Dealers Should Do\*\*\*\* 1. Service Comm will deactivate P4213 on any unrepaired VINs on September 29, 2017. \- Repair orders must be opened on or before September 28, 2017 \- Claims submitted for repair orders opened after this date will be rejected. 2. Dealers should plan their parts inventory needs to align with the end of this campaign. 3. Dealers should submit any open claims for the timing chain replacement under this campaign as soon as possible. Nissan would like to have all claims submitted by October 20, 2017.

SERVICE INFORMATION The information in this bulletin is provided to help ensure correct diagnosis and repair of fluid leaks. All fluid leaks, when properly diagnosed, should be repaired \(whether under warranty or customer pay\) to ensure proper vehicle operation. However, certain normal operating conditions can be misdiagnosed as a leak requiring repair. Unnecessary repair or replacement of parts in connection with incorrectly diagnosed "leaks" can negatively impact customer satisfaction, be time consuming and costly, and if not performed correctly can lead to future repairs. See this bulletin for further detail.

NOTE: \* Do not remove the axle from the hub or transmission for this bulletin \* Refer to the Electronic Service Manual \(ESM\) for model specific torque specifications. \- For 2007\-2013 Versa and 2013 LEAF vehicles, see the Service Procedure torque specifications on page 4. SERVICE INFORMATION If a customer describes lack of power or poor acceleration, perform the following checks before attempting any repair: \* Check for stored DTCs. \* Check if the driver is resting their left foot on the brake pedal while accelerating. Advise the customer not to rest their foot on the brake while accelerating. \* Use CONSULT\-III plus in Engine Data Monitor to check operation of the brake lamp circuit signal. Monitor the brake switch during the incident; it should be "OFF". Please see this bulletn for further details.

- [Sentra\_Versa\_Alt](/bulletins/10176204.md), 2020-06-08, Service bulletin: POWER TRAIN. CVT Warranty Extension In an effort to assure customer satisfaction, demonstrate our confidence in continuously variable transmissions \(CVTs\), and to address customer concerns including those expressed by customers in the class actions, Nissan will extend the warranty coverage on the CVT. The warranty extension includes the CVT assembly and internal CVT components, gaskets, and seals, CVT control valve body, torque converter, cooler kit \(if applicable\) and reprogramming of the Transmission Control Module \(TCM\), on the vehicles listed in this announcement from its original duration of 60 months/60,000 miles to 84 months/84,000 miles \(whichever occurs first\). The extension also includes rental while CVT repairs or replacements are completed. Coverage of other vehicle components remains unchanged, and all other terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions of Nissan’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty continue to apply. \*\*\*\*\* What Dealers Should Do \*\*\*\*\* 1. If an owner contacts a dealer with a CVT concern in an owned or leased vehicle, verify warranty coverage for the specific VIN and then inform the customer of any diagnostic charges. NOTE: Some owners may have opted out of the warranty extension as part of the class action settlements, thus it is important to check the VIN for each vehicle to verify coverage. 2. Use the appropriate Technical Service Bulletin \(TSB\) and/or Electronic Service Manual \(ESM\) to diagnose the root cause of the customer concern and identify the correct repair to resolve the customer concerns. NOTE: Dealers will need to follow the warranty process and obtain pre\-approval from the Powertrain Call Center \(800\-973\-9992, option 2\) for any vehicles requiring CVT replacements when the replacement cost exceeds a Dealer’s Claims Administration/Authorization Limits \(DCAL\). Control valves and CVT belt and pulley kits do not require pre\-authorization for repairs made under warranty.
- [NPSB20\-590 CVT R](/bulletins/10176203.md), 2020-06-08, Service bulletin: POWER TRAIN. CVT Repairs Repair Recommendation: Dealers are advised to use all diagnostic information available in the ESM, TSBs, and ASIST to determine the appropriate repair for a customer’s concern. Nissan recommends CVT assembly replacement be offered whenever diagnostics have led a dealer to determine a belt and pulley sub assembly repair will resolve a customer’s concern and the vehicle time in service or mileage is equal to or greater than 84 months in service or 84,000 miles. This recommendation provides longer\-term durability for customer satisfaction. Customers required to pay out\-of\-pocket for these repairs may still choose belt and pulley sub assembly repair in lieu of CVT unit replacement if they prefer that option. Note: This recommendation only applies to belt and pulley sub assembly repairs. Do not recommend CVT unit replacement when the diagnosis is for software updates or control valves.
