Service bulletin 1HD-L5P3E-03

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

NHTSA's summary

Service Bulletin M1439: 2017 DRIVE BELT TENSION. This Service Bulletin describes the new belt tension specification to use for belt tension before the first service interval. Belt tension is initially set to allow for early break-in of the belt and sprockets. The break-in occurs in the first few hundred miles and even to some degree in post assembly audit. Harley-Davidson has provided an acceptable range of belt tension variation at PDI based on testing and evaluation.
