# Service bulletin SB\-17\-31\-001

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

## NHTSA's summary

Some Model S and Model X vehicles may have been manufactured with front suspension fore links that may not meet Tesla strength specifications. In the event of link failure, the driver can still maintain control of the vehicle but the tire may contact the wheel arch liner.

## Other bulletins for the same vehicles and component

- [SB\-19\-39\-001 R3](/bulletins/10169816.md), 2020-01-06, Service bulletin: EQUIPMENT; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; WHEELS. Older versions of the Model S and Model X LH front drive unit clevis mount contain a bushing that allows the front drive unit to move side\-to\-side more than expected during hard accelerations, resulting in excessive vibrations coming from the front drive unit during hard acceleration. This is exclusively an NVH issue and does not otherwise affect steering functionality, braking, or acceleration.
- [SB\-18\-31\-001](/bulletins/10143592.md), 2018-08-06, Service bulletin: SUSPENSION. Some Model S vehicles were manufactured with front suspension lower fore links that do not meet Tesla?s internal specifications. The lower fore link may contact the sway bar mounting bracket, causing noise and the risk for damage to front suspension components over time. This condition does not affect steering control or response.
