Service bulletin A17-032
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

NHTSA's summary
Service bulletin - The vehicle does not start due to a low battery. The vehicle may have an intermittent 350mA current draw after the vehicle is shut off. The VSA software logic may not allow the VSA modulator-control unit to shut down correctly and go into sleep mode after the vehicle is shut off. This can happen if the electronic parking brake (EPB) is applied within 3 to 4 seconds of the vehicle being shut off or if the EPB switch is held for a 3 to 4 second duration when the vehicle is off.

FROM OUR INVESTIGATION, WE’VE FOUND THAT A SOFTWARE BUG IN THE VSA SYSTEM MAY BE KEEPING IT AWAKE WHEN THE IGNITION IS TURNED TO OFF. THIS CAN CAUSE A 350 MA PARASITIC DRAW THAT MAY RESULT IN A WEAK OR DEAD BATTERY. WE’VE ALSO FOUND THAT THIS ISSUE APPEARS TO HAPPEN ONLY WHEN A CERTAIN SHUT DOWN PROCEDURE IS DONE, AND IT’S RARE WHEN IT DOES." |
