# Service bulletin 09\-017\-16\-3169

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

- Type: Service bulletin
- NHTSA id: 10101086
- Published by NHTSA: 2017\-05\-30
- Manufacturer's number: 09\-017\-16\-3169
- Manufacturer's date: 2016\-03\-17
- NHTSA component: VISIBILITY:GLASS, SIDE/REAR; STRUCTURE:BODY:DOOR

## NHTSA's summary

SOME VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT A RATTLE NOISE AND/OR WIND NOISE FROM THE FRONT DOOR GLASS AREA WHILE DRIVING THE VEHI\-CLE. THIS IS CAUSED BY A DEFORMED GLASS RUN CHANNEL \(A\). THE DEFORMED AREA IS LOCATED AT THE UPPER REAR CORNER OF THE RUN CHANNEL AND IS CAUSED BY REPEATED DOOR GLASS CLOSURES IN VERY HOT CLIMATES. THE DEFORMED AREA CAUSES POOR CONTACT BETWEEN THE GLASS RUN CHANNEL AND THE DOOR SASH, WHICH RESULTS IN RATTLE NOISE AND/OR WIND NOISE.

- [SA\-039/25](/bulletins/11022742.md), 2025-09-05, Service bulletin: UNKNOWN OR OTHER; STRUCTURE:BODY. Some vehicles may experience exterior trim heat damage such \(melted, separating, etc.\) when parked near a glass building or Low\-E windows. This may be caused by the sun's reflection. If a structure's windows create enough of a curve, the concave glass can focus the sun's rays onto a small area and acting like magnifiying glass direct the sunbeams into a hot pinpoint of light. This magnifcation of the sun's rays can cause damage to vehicle trim \(see examples\). Additional information and exemplar images regarding this phenomenon can be found by performing a google search.

- [SA\-040\-21](/bulletins/10198691.md), 2021-07-01, Service bulletin: VISIBILITY:POWER WINDOW DEVICES AND CONTROLS. Some vehicles may experience exterior trim heat damage when parked near a glass building or Low\-E windows. This may be caused by the sun's reflection.
- [MT\-003\-21](/bulletins/10198574.md), 2021-06-29, Service bulletin: VISIBILITY:POWER WINDOW DEVICES AND CONTROLS. Some vehicles may experience exterior trim heat damage when parked near a glass building. This may be caused by the suns reflection. If a building creates enough of a curve with a series of flat windows, which act like mirrors, the reflections all converge at one point, focusing and concentrating the light onto the street below.
- [09\-017\-16\-3169](/bulletins/10185950.md), 2021-01-28, Service bulletin: STRUCTURE. Some vehicles may exhibit a rattle noise and/or wind noise from the front door glass area while driving the vehicle. This is caused by a deformed glass run channel \(A\). The deformed area is located at the upper rear corner of the run channel and is caused by repeated door glass closures in very hot climates. The deformed area causes poor contact between the glass run channel and the door sash, which results in rattle noise and/or wind noise.
