"DEALER MESSAGE - ON SEPTEMBER 18, 2013, ACURA NOTIFIED NHTSA OF A SAFETY RECALL FOR SOME 2003 MDX VEHICLES FOR THE ISSUE COVERED IN SERVICE BULLETIN 13-038, SAFETY RECALL: ELECTRICAL NOISE MAY CAUSE INADVERTENT AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. ON JANUARY 27, 2015, ACURA NOTIFIED NHTSA OF A REVISED REPAIR FOR THAT RECALL. THE ORIGINAL REPAIR CONSISTED OF THE INSTALLATION OF AN ELECTRONIC NOISE FILTER TO COUNTER INADVERTENT AIRBAG DEPLOYMENTS DUE TO ELECTRONIC INTERFERENCE. AFTER FURTHER TESTING, ACURA HAS OBSERVED A SMALL NUMBER OF INADVERTENT DEPLOYMENTS IN VEHICLES THAT ALREADY RECEIVED THE RECALL REPAIR. DUE TO THIS, ACURA HAS DETERMINED THAT THE SRS UNIT SHOULD BE REPLACED IN ALL AFFECTED UNITS."

Service bulletin - Certain Acura vehicles operated in areas known for high absolute humidity and high heat may contain a front passenger?s airbag that over time may be affected by exposure to the humidity, which could produce excessive internal pressure upon deployment. If an affected airbag deploys, the increased internal pressure may cause the inflator casing to rupture. Metal fragments could be propelled upward toward the windshield, or downward toward the front passenger?s foot well, possibly causing an injury to vehicle occupants.
