# Service bulletin B16120B

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

- Type: Service bulletin
- NHTSA id: 10099066
- Published by NHTSA: 2017\-05\-15
- Manufacturer's number: B16120B
- Manufacturer's date: 2016\-12\-08
- NHTSA component: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

## NHTSA's summary

"SERVICE BULLETIN \- IN A 9\-SPEED A/T, THE ATF LEVEL IS CRITICAL. IF IT’S TOO HIGH, THE TRANSMISSION COULD SHIFT HARD. IF IT’S TOO LOW, THE TRANSMISSION COULD SLIP. THIS TRANSMISSION ALSO DOESN’T USE A DIPSTICK. TO CHECK THE ATF LEVEL, YOU NEED TO RUN A SPECIAL PROCEDURE. ALTHOUGH IT’S COVERED IN THE SERVICE INFORMATION, WE’RE INCLUDING IT HERE ALONG WITH SOME TIPS TO HELP ENSURE YOU’RE DOING THE JOB RIGHT."

## Other bulletins for the same vehicles and component

- [BTS\-151101 V2](/bulletins/10193296.md), 2021-05-14, Service bulletin: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE \(TCM/PCM/TECM\). Replacement TCMs don’t come with trim data. After installation, you need to run a teach\-in \(hydraulic pressure characteristic calibration\) procedure with the HDS. The problem is that A/T DTC P287C \(transmission adaptive values not learned\) is set, which prevents teach\-in. This happens because the TCM is programmed to look for trim data any time the ignition is cycled. If the TCM doesn’t see that trim data, it sets A/T DTC P287C. If any DTCs are set, the TCM won’t initiate teach\-in and, as a result, can’t learn the trim data. It’s a classic catch\-22 situation.
- [SB\-16\-012](/bulletins/10193236.md), 2021-05-13, Service bulletin: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. BACKGROUND American Honda has made several shift quality improvements in the 2015 and 2016 TLX V6. SYMPTOM There is a sensation of acceleration while coasting down a hill. There is a sensation of a surge while braking. The transmission feels like it stays in gear too long. CORRECTIVE ACTION Update the TCM software. Clear all DTC’s created during the update and do the idle learn procedure. This software update will change the way the transmission shifts. After the update it may take up to 30 miles for the transmission to adapt to the client’s driving habits.
- [BBOM09152020](/bulletins/10180020.md), 2020-09-22, Service bulletin: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE; POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE \(TCM/PCM/TECM\). Dealer Message \- Today, September 15, 2020, Acura is announcing a stop sale and emissions recall for certain 2017\-2020 MDX Sport Hybrid and 2014, 2016\-2020 RLX Sport Hybrid vehicles that may not properly clear specific diagnostic trouble codes \(DTC\). Presence of these codes may prevent the vehicle from passing a smog test. Refer to your eResponsibility report or do an iN VIN status inquiry to determine which units in your inventory are affected.

"Service Bulletin \- When the PCM detects a malfunction in one of the odd number transmission gears, it will set one of the following DTCs: \-P073F \(unable to engage gear 1\) \-P074B \(unable to engage gear 3\) \-P074D \(unable to engage gear 5\) \-P074F \(unable to engage gear 7\) Due to inappropriate calibration of the PCM, the OBD system cannot properly clear the transmission permanent DTC as required."
