Service bulletin JTB00445NAS1

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

NHTSA's summary

"SITUATION: A LOSS OF PERFORMANCE MAY BE EXPERIENCED AND/OR THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP (MIL) MAY BE ILLUMINATED. UPON DIAGNOSIS, THE TECHNICIAN MAY FIND ONE OR MORE MISFIRE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTC [P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, AND/OR P1315]) STORED IN THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM). THE ECM IS TO BE REPROGRAMMED IN ORDER TO PROTECT THE ENGINE AGAINST DAMAGING COMBUSTION EVENTS. CAUSE: THIS MAY BE CAUSED BY ECM SOFTWARE WHICH, UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, COULD LEAD TO DAMAGING PRECOMBUSTION EVENTS THAT MAY LEAD TO POTENTIAL PISTON DAMAGE WITHIN THE ENGINE."
