Service bulletin 06-002-16-3194

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

NHTSA's summary

SOME VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT AN UNUSUAL NOISE FROM AROUND THE DRIVER’S FOOT AREA WHEN REPEATEDLY TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT. A VIBRATION IS FELT AT THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN THE NOISE OCCURS. THIS CONCERN MAY BE CAUSED BY A LACK OF GREASE APPLICATION TO THE SPLINES OF THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT AT THE PRODUCTION LINE. THE GREASE APPLICATION PROCESS HAS BEEN IMPROVED.

SA-051-252025-12-05. Service bulletin. Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) Diagnostic Guidelines Diagnostic Guidelines When diagnosing NVH concerns, it is essential to first classify the issue into one of three primary categories: Noise, Vibration, or Harshness. Many customer complaints may involve overlapping symptoms, such as both noise and vibration, so identifying the dominant characteristic is critical. Once the primary symptom is determined, follow the appropriate diagnostic path. For example, if a concern includes both noise and vibration but is related to vehicle speed, the vibration diagnostic path should be followed. When considering component replacement during the diagnostic process, it is best practice to start with the lowest cost or most accessible part unless diagnostic evidence clearly identifies a more expensive or complex component as the root cause. This approach helps minimize repair costs and avoids unnecessary part replacements. For example, a growling or bearing whine noise may be mistakenly attributed to internal components in the differential, transfer unit, or transmission, when the actual source is a wheel bearing. Misdiagnosis like this can lead to unnecessary repairs, added time and cost. To help prevent this, always follow the guidelines in the repair procedure.
06-002-252025-12-04. Service bulletin. Some vehicles may exhibit a light resistance and/or an unusual noise when turning the steering wheel in either direction. This concern may be caused by insufficient lubrication between the worm wheel gear and worm shaft. To eliminate this concern, the amount of grease between the worm wheel gear and worm shaft was increased and the housing end cover shape was modified.
06-001-252025-02-05. Service bulletin. Some vehicles may exhibit wear/peel-off of the leather steering wheel surface causing a poor appearance. This concern may be caused by an insufficient wear resistance of the steering wheel surface.
SA-011-242024-03-06. Service bulletin. Mazda has developed factory recommended scheduled maintenance services that support all major vehicle systems. Mazda recommends dealers follow the scheduled maintenance tables as cited in the vehicle-specific workshop manual or owner's manual. Services performed outside of Mazda's factory scheduled maintenance are not recommended. These services are unnecessary and create unneeded expenses for your customers.
06-002-232023-06-04. Service bulletin. Some vehicles may exhibit a light resistance and/or an unusual noise when turning the steering wheel in either direction. This concern may be caused by insufficient lubrication between the worm wheel gear and worm shaft. To eliminate this concern, the production process for the steering shaft has been modified.

Light Resistance and/or Unusual Noise When Turning Steering Wheel Left or Right: Some vehicles may exhibit a light resistance and/or an unusual noise when turning the steering wheel in either direction. This concern may be caused by the following causes. - The worm wheel gear was out of concentricity tolerance due to an improper manufacturing process. - The worm wheel gear was not in the proper distance due to an improper tolerance range. - The worm wheel gear has been swelled by water due to improper storage at the factory. To eliminate this concern, the production process for the steering shaft has been further modified. Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.
