Service bulletin TSB120300-112812

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

NHTSA's summary

THIS TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN DESRIBES THE VERIFICATION AND RESOLUTION OF A CHIRPING NOISE HEARD FROM THE PRIMARY BELT DRIVE ON SOME ENGINES. PRIMARY BELT NOISE, DESCRIBED AS A CHIRPING NOISE, IS BEING HEARD AT THE WATER PUMP. THE WATER PUMP AND CRANKSHAFT PULLLEYS ARE ALIGNED, BUT THE BELT TENSIONER BETWEEN THE TWO PULLEYS MAY BE TILTED ON SOME ENGINES DUE TO THE REFRIGERANT COMPRESSOR/ALTERNATOR BRACKET MOUNGING. THIS TILTING MAY CAUSE A BELT ENTRY ANGLE INTO THE WATER PUMP THAT IS SUSCEPTIBLEL TO CAUSING NOISE ON THE FRONT END DRIVE.
