NHTSA's summary

THIS TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN DESCRIBES THE VERIFICATION AND RESOLUTION OF BELT SHREDDING ON SOME ENGINES. ENGINE BRAKE ENGAGEMENT WHILE THE TRANSMMISSION IS IN THE NEUTRAL CONDITION CAN CAUSE SLACK BETWEEN THE FAN HUB AND CRANKSHAFT, ALLOWING THE FAN DRIVE BELT TO RIDE ON THE EDGES OF THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY, CAUSING THE THE BELT TO SHRED. THIS CONDITION IS ADDRESSED WITH A RECALIBRATION OF THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE. UNITS HAVE A FAN CENTER OF MORE THAN 457.2 MM WILL ALSO REQUIRE THE INSTALLATION OF A TIGHT SIDE IDLER KIT.
