THIS PRELIMINARY INFORMATION COMMUNICATION PROVIDES INFORMATION TO THE TECHNICIAN ON THE STEPS TO DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR VEHICLES THAT MAY HAVE AN INTERMITTENT "CHECK TRAILER WIRING" OR "SERVICE TRAILER BRAKE" MESSAGE ON THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER. TECHNICIAN WILL INSPECT AND CLEAN THE GROUND WIRE (NORMALLY WHITE WIRE) CONNECTION ON THE TRAILER SIDE OF THE 7-PIN CONNECTOR. INSPECT THAT THE WIRES INSIDE THE TRAILER SIDE CONNECTOR ARE CLEAN AND SECURELY FASTENED. IF THE VEHICLE’S 7-WAY CONNECTOR SOCKET TERMINALS ARE DEFORMED OR HAVE EXCESSIVE WEAR, IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO REPLACE THE TRUCK SIDE CONNECTOR FROM GENERAL MOTORS CUSTOMER CARE AND AFTERSALES ALONG WITH THE TRAILER'S 7-WAY CONNECTOR PLUG.

If the vehicle?s 7-way connector socket terminals are deformed or have excessive wear, it will be necessary to replace the truck side connector with part number 23404450.

Technician will find Diagnostic Trouble Codes P0340 and P0341 setting at times. Technician should use normal published Service Information diagnostics. If normal Service Information diagnostics does not isolate the concern, inspect for corrosion in connector X154 located on the front cover next to the vacuum pump.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on how to diagnose and repair vehicles that have a no crank or a start and then immediate stall, Service Engine Soon Malfunction Indicator lamp may not be on when the ignition is in the run position. Technician may find Diagnostic Trouble Codes P0513 and or P262B may also be set. Technician will pulled the driver sill plate and inspect the wiring for damaged or corroded circuits. Technician will repair any damaged or corroded circuits.
