"SITUATION: TWO ISSUES HAVE BEEN DISCOVERED WITH THE EVENT DATA RECORDERS \(EDR\) INSTALLED IN 2013\-2014 MODEL YEAR XJ VEHICLES WITHIN THE LISTED VIN RANGE. THE EDR IS NOW REQUIRED TO RECORD SOME VEHICLE DATA WHICH CERTAIN USA OFFICIAL AGENCIES \(POLICE, ETC.\) MAY USE FOR CRASH INVESTIGATION PURPOSES. TWO ELEMENTS OF THE DATA THAT SHOULD BE RECORDED ARE NOT CURRENTLY STORED IN THE CORRECT FORMAT. CONSEQUENTLY, IN THIS CONDITION VEHICLES DO NOT MEET ALL THE REQUIREMENTS OF 49 CFR PART 563 \- EVENT DATA RECORDERS. ACTION: RETAILERS ARE REQUIRED TO HOLD ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES WITHIN THE LISTED VIN RANGE THAT ARE IN THEIR CONTROL AND REFRAIN FROM RELEASING THE VEHICLES FOR NEW OR USED VEHICLE SALE PENDING COMPLETION OF THE REWORK ACTION DETAILED IN THIS TECHNICAL BULLETIN."
