Service bulletin TT 96-12-06

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

TT4810042023-07-10. Service bulletin. If the steering rack is replaced on the above models for any reason, it is necessary to replace the steering harness as well. The new harness may be equipped with an extra connector. If all connections are made correctly, then it is necessary to remove that connector and tape the exposed wires back into the harness. Be sure to tape tightly in order to provide a water-tight repair.
TT4509042023-07-10. Service bulletin. Some Golf, GTI, Jetta, and Passat vehicles equipped with electromechanical power steering have the G85 steering angle sensor located in the steering rack. These vehicles do not have a G85 in the steering column. To determine G85 location, check the J500 Power steering control module part number in the GFF printout.
