# Service bulletin ASI\-32264

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

- [SSM 52334](/bulletins/10251951.md), 2024-03-20, Service bulletin: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2011\-2024 Mustang and F\-150 vehicles equipped with a 5.0L engine may exhibit a tick tap and/or typewriter ticking noise at idle after an engine oil change. It is often referred to as typewriter noise because of its similarity to the sound of a mechanical typewriter. The noise in question may be heard on some engines when engine temperatures reach 150°F \(65°C\) or higher and engine speed is at idle up to approximately 1700 RPM. It can typically be heard at the front wheel well and is often isolated to the transmission bell housing or oil pan area. The typewriter noise tick rate can be faster or slower and is not detrimental to the engine function or durability and has no short or long term effects on the engine. This an operating characteristic of the 5.0L engine and no repairs should be attempted. This information along with an example audio clip has been added to the WSM Section 303\-00 Engine System General Information \> Diagnosis and Testing \> Engine \> PPT F \> Step F2.

- [SSM 49761](/bulletins/10191525.md), 2021-05-03, Service bulletin: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2011\-2021 Mustang and F\-150 vehicles equipped with a 5.0L engine may exhibit a ticking noise at idle after an engine oil change. It is often referred to as typewriter noise because of its similarity to the sound of a mechanical typewriter. The noise in question may be heard on some engines when engine temperatures reach 150F \(65Å’C\) or higher and engine speed is at idle up to approximately 1700 RPMs. It can typically be heard at the front wheel well and is often isolated to the transmission bell housing or oil pan area. The typewriter noise is not detrimental to the engine function or durability and has no short or long term effects on the engine. This an operating characteristic of the 5.0L engine and no repairs should be attempted.
- [16\-0074](/bulletins/10183775.md), 2020-12-07, Service bulletin: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2011\-2014 Mustang vehicles equipped with a 3.7L engine may exhibit coolant pump leakage due to air entering the system.
- [SSM 47830](/bulletins/10156888.md), 2019-04-08, Service bulletin: ENGINE. Some 5.0L 4V engines may exhibit a tick/tap/rattle or knock immediately after secondary timing chain tensioner installation. In some cases the secondary timing chain tensioners are not fully released during installation. To confirm, remove both valve covers and inspect the secondary timing chains and tensioners. If the chain is loose fitting and the tensioner does not appear to be extended, using your hand depress the chain/guide and tensioner several times or until the tensioner releases taking up the slack in the chain. If the chain does not have slack, follow Workshop Manual Section 303\-00 to diagnose. The Workshop Manual section 303\-01C has been updated to reflect the installation releasing process for the secondary timing chain tensioner.
- [SSM 47797](/bulletins/10156877.md), 2019-04-08, Service bulletin: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT:APPLIANCE:AIR CONDITIONER. Some 2009\-2017 Expedition/Navigator, 2009\-2014 F\-150/Mustang, 2008\-2009 Sable, 2008\-2019 Taurus/Flex/MKT, 2013\-2019 Police Interceptor Sedan/Utility, and 2011\-2019 Explorer vehicles may exhibit inoperative or intermittent HVAC blower motor function at various fan speed settings. This may be due to a poor electrical connection at the blower motor speed control. If the blower motor speed control is determined to be the causal part, replacement of the electrical connector pigtail harness \(14S411\) to the blower motor speed control is also recommended to avoid repeat repairs. Refer to Wiring Diagram, Cell 5 for recommended splicing procedures. Refer to Wiring Diagram, Cells 54/55 to obtain the service pigtail connector part number.

The Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis \(PC/ED\) manual has been revised for diagnosing electronic throttle bodies \(ETBs\). The ETC\_ACT and ETC\_DSD PIDs should not used to diagnose possible ETB concerns. The IDS has a limited refresh rate when reading these PIDs and cannot display quickly enough to validate a concern. The PCM automatically monitors these inputs more accurately and will set diagnostic trouble codes \(DTCs\) when appropriate. Using these PIDs for diagnostics will lead to inaccurate results and improper ETB replacements. If a concern is intermittent and no DTCs are present, refer to historical DTCs and the PC/ED, Section 3 No DTCs Present Index chart for further information.
